Viptela to Demonstrate WAN Virtualization at VMworld 2015

Viptela Inc., the Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN) company, today announced that it will present several live demonstrations in the New Innovator Pavilion at VMworld 2015 on how commonly used data center virtualization techniques are being extended to the Wide Area Network (WAN). Using the Viptela Secure Extensible Network (SEN) platform, Viptela will showcase how companies can combine multiple transports into a single, cloud-adaptable WAN that is centrally managed, provides robust security and significantly lowers operating costs.

This year for the first time, SD-WAN is joining the software-defined data center (SDDC) as a key focus area of VMworld. Viptela demonstrations will be held at the New Innovator Booth NI-8.

"Virtualization has helped solve some of the biggest operational, management and performance problems in the datacenter, while lowering costs," said Khalid Raza, Chief Technology Officer for Viptela. "We have applied some of these same principles and techniques to address the challenges posed by cloud apps, video apps and constantly growing data usage in the WAN. In the process, we are transforming the WAN much like VMware has transformed the data center."

The Viptela SD-WAN solution disaggregates voice, video and data services from the physical network using a single overlay WAN that supports any number o different transport connections, and provides end-to-end encryption and zero-trust device authentication. It enables granular network segmentation for separation across different lines of business, partner networks, etc. with centrally managed policies to optimize application performance, meet enterprise security requirements and slash operational costs. Viptela SEN integrates seamlessly with existing network infrastructures and can be deployed incrementally.

VMworld Use Case Demos

Viptela SEN will be used to present live demos of the following use cases at Booth NI-8:

  • Bandwidth (News - Alert) Augmentation: To address constantly growing bandwidth requirements at branch offices, retail outlets, remote clinics, etc. Viptela enables organizations to supplement existing MPLS circuits with lower cost broadband connections that are encrypted. Viptela SEN also centrally manages MPLS and other transport technologies as if they were a single homogeneous network.
  • Flexible, Multi-segmented Topologies: Enterprises require multiple logical networks that are securely isolated for varied business requirements. Video collaboration applications require full-mesh connectivity, financial/ERP applications require hub-and-spoke connectivity, and Guest WiFi (News - Alert) requires a partial mesh with regional offload.
  • Application SLAs: The exploding adoption of cloud applications often results in slow response times for users in branches, retail stores and remote offices due to congestion on the WAN. Viptela uses real-time policies to automatically route data traffic around choke points to meet service level agreements and provide a consistent user experience.
  • Service Chaining: Adding new network services including firewalls, load balancers, intrusion detection systems (IDS), etc. to WAN connections is cumbersome, time consuming and expensive. Viptela can add new services immediately as soon as they broadcast their availability.
