Entrust Datacard Participates in Cybersecurity Roundtable Hosted by Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D.

Entrust (News - Alert) Datacard announces today that David Wagner, president of Entrust, Inc. joined U.S. Congressman Michael C. Burgess (TX-26), M.D.; Dr. Ram Dantu, director of the Center for Information and Computer Security at the University of North Texas; Larry Parker, owner of Denton Depot; and Stephen Bohanon, founder and chief strategy and sales officer, Alkami, for a cybersecurity roundtable event in Denton, Texas. The panel highlighted evolving cyber threats impacting U.S. consumers and businesses, and discussed local research that has been conducted to help protect against data breaches and identity theft.

"Growing demands for anytime, anywhere access to everything from bank accounts to government services makes financial institutions and retailers increasingly attractive targets for cyber criminals," said Wagner. "Companies of all sizes in all industries must keep pace with modern information security strategies to safeguard both their own data and their customers' personal information. The financial and reputational damage stemming from a data breach far outweighs the cost of implementing cybersecurity defenses."

The Denton Chamber of Commerce and the University of North Texas (UNT) co-hosted today's frum. The event's speakers and panel discussion focused on insights from UNT's cybersecurity research, the federal government's role in helping to protect businesses and citizens from cyber threats, and key steps individuals should take to protect themselves from identity theft.

"As our society increasingly relies on technology to work, shop and travel, cyber criminals will continue to exploit weaknesses in the IT systems governments, businesses and individuals use to interact with each other," said Wagner. "By collaborating with federal and local governments to educate businesses and consumers on emerging cyber threats, we can empower them to better defend themselves."
