PRIUM's Michael Gavin and Mark Pew to Speak at WCI's Workers' Compensation Educational Conference

PRIUM's President Michael Gavin and Senior Vice President Mark Pew (News - Alert) will address separate sessions at the Workers' Compensation Institute's 70th Annual Workers' Compensation Educational Conference in Orlando.

Pew will participate on the August 24 panel, "Purple Haze: Rapid Evolution of Marijuana Laws and Their Impact on Workers' Compensation Claims," along with Liberty Mutual's Regional Medical Director Michael Webb, Attorney Bert Randall, and Moderator Mark Walls of Safety National. Panelists will examine numerous questions surrounding medical marijuana, including the legal trends for medical and recreational legalization. What is its clinical efficacy? What are the short- and long-term effects of use? How does legalization, unique to each state, affect the workplace and workers' compensation?

On Tuesday August 25, Gavin will join Helios' Chief Clinical Officer Tron Emptage and Ron Thackery, with Emergency Medical Services in Greenwood Village, Colorado, for "Managing Prescription Drugs and Powerful Narcotics," moderated by Sedgwick's Senior Vice President of Medical Quality, Teresa Bartlett, M.D. Gavin will share innovative approaches to intervening on claims with long-term exposure to narcotics as well as early intervention methods to avoid claimant dependency and addiction. Panelists will cover predictive analytics and trend reporting, patient adocacy and health literacy, physician agreements, pharmacist expertise, patient-centered treatment protocols, and post-medication planning.

PRIUM will also exhibit in Booth 902 at the conference. WCI's WCEC will be held August 23 through 26 at the Orlando World Center Marriott; more information is available at https://www.wci360.com/conference.
