Priority Health recognizes hundreds of exceptional Michigan health care practices through annual Quality Awards

It pays to care. This month, Priority Health is recognizing its network of doctors and health care practices for working together to improve health care outcomes in Michigan with its 2015 Quality Awards.

To provide its members with the greatest access to exceptional patient care and raise the state's overall health care standards, Priority Health partners with physicians and practices to meet this goal. While Priority Health's physician network earned strong scores overall, the Quality Awards annually recognizes the top performers.

The Priority Health Quality Awards are given to practices that achieve the highest overall scores in preventive care and chronic disease measures through the Priority Health Primary Care Provider Incentive Program, which tracks clinical quality measures against national standards and evidence-based medicine. This year 245 practices were awarded statewide.

This collaboration with top-performing physicians and practices has already had significant impact, as demonstrated by the number of Priority Health members who receive preventive screenings. Preventive screenings are a proven and cost-effective way to identify and treat potential health problems before they develop or worsen. Priority Health providers ranked among the nation's best for ensuring their patients receive cervical cancer screenings, childhood and adolescent immunizations and well child visits for young children.

Priority Health invests in practices to help develop the infrastructure required to support the transformation of care. As a result, the Patient Centered Medical Home initiative, a model that is designed to deliver comprehensive care unique to individual patient needs, has seen consistent and steady growth. In fact, last year the program grew by 19 percent.

Priority Health sets high targets, with practices needing to meet or exceed the national 90^th percentile in order to qualify for incentive awards. Based on performance, Priority Health has awarded more than $198 million to practices in support of primary care over and above standard payment of services. What started with recognition of fewer than 30 practices in 2003, the Quality Awards program has evolved to celebrating hundreds of practices across the state for achievement of the highest levels of care.

Across the network, physician practices earned nearly $22 million in incentive pay in 2015, based on 2014 performance.
