FireKing patch secures Brinks safe against hacks featured in media reports last weekNEW ALBANY, Ind., Aug. 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- FireKing Security Group said today that researchers from security firm Bishop Fox tested a year-old solution to a hack into a Brinks Galileo safe and found that it effectively addresses the issue referenced in widespread media reports last week. Bishop Fox conducted the new test at FireKing's request on August 3, and will report the results during its DefCon 23 appearance on August 8. "We tested the FireKing patch and can confirm that it resolves the breakout issue reported a year ago. We're encouraged to see a business act promptly to address a security issue affecting its customers," said Bishop Fox Partner Vincent Liu. The unit that researchers used for the test was the same one featured in media reports, only updated with the FireKing patch. The unit was purchased on te secondary market (eBay), not from an authorized dealer. In connection with the test, FireKing documented that the patch was delivered within days of its discovery and that it was satisfactorily deployed. FireKing CEO Mark Essig said that there have been no reported losses associated with the reported vulnerability. "FireKing has over 50,000 smart safes installed in the United States and has never experienced a loss from an electronic security breach," he said. "We believe our record stems from a culture of rapid response to these kinds of security issues." About FireKing Security Group
