ACT-IAC Announces Project to Provide the Government Recommendations on Improving Its Cybersecurity Posture

The American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC (News - Alert)), a unique public-private partnership committed to creating a more effective and efficient government, today announced that it is soliciting suggestions from the government technology community on key issues associated with protecting information held by the government. The suggestions will be included in a report that will be provided to the Federal Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the Federal CIO Council by September 30, 2015.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Federal CIO Council will benefit from widespread perspectives and recommendations from industry, government and academia on how to dramatically improve the government's security posture (short and long term). Using an innovation management platform, ACT-IAC will lead a "Community Cybersecurity Initiative" to provide input on this critically important issue. ACT-IAC will conduct this initiative in a timely manner so as to inform the government on potential improvements in its cybersecurity posture.

The ACT-IAC initiative will address a number of questions designed to solicit ideas on how best to address challenges and take advantage of opportunities to create a more effective security for federal agencies. Through the initiative, ACT-IAC will solicit ideas on underutilized or new measures that have real potential to improve the government's operational security on a day-to-day basis -- new, plausible action steps that can bear fruiful and positive impact.

This initiative will not solicit or endorse information about specific products or services. ACT-IAC seeks a broad array of technical, policy, legal, operational, managerial, acquisition, funding and R&D ideas that collectively could improve federal cybersecurity. ACT-IAC will report to OMB and the Federal CIO Council on information provided through this initiative, as well as key themes based on that information; ultimately, ACT-IAC intends to release a public report on the findings as well.

"Today, as the nation is facing more security breaches than ever before, it is vital that government and industry executives work together to strengthen the government's cybersecurity posture," said Kenneth Allen, ACT-IAC's executive director. "ACT-IAC's extensive track record of bringing together the experience, expertise and creative energy of leaders in both government and industry perfectly positions our organization to lead this collaborative effort."
