Take Charge America Partners with United Food & Commercial Workers Local 99 to Provide Financial Education

Take Charge America, Inc., a national nonprofit credit counseling agency based in Phoenix, is partnering with the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 99 (UFCW 99) to provide a variety of financial education and counseling services tailored to suit the needs of union members.

"We continually seek out new and innovative ways to add value to the union membership," said UFCW 99 President Jim McLaughlin. "Increasing the members' access to financial education services will help on numerous personal and professional fronts, and enable members to better provide for themselves and their families."

Members of UFCW 99, the largest private sector union in Arizona with 18,500 members, will benefit from on-site financial workshops, monthly educational materials and access to the following services:

  • Credit Counseling, a confidential service that provides individuals and families with a complimentary financial consultation, customized budget, and action plan to get out of debt and achieve financial goals.
  • Debt Management Plans, which helps people get out of serious credit card debt by reducing the amount of time it takes to repay the debt, eliminating fees and reducing interest carges.
  • Credit Look, which provides consumers with a free credit score and a comprehensive review of their credit report. The program is a jumping-off point for people who are unsure how to begin improving their financial situation.
  • Student Loan Counseling, which helps borrowers identify the right solution for paying off their student loans and guides them through numerous repayment options, step-by-step.
  • Housing Counseling, which helps homeowners struggling to meet their mortgage payments, as well as potential homebuyers who need guidance purchasing their first homes.

"The partnership will give thousands of workers and their families access to financial tools and resources that will impact their personal financial wellbeing," said Take Charge America CEO David Richardson (News - Alert). "It's a move that demonstrates the union's huge commitment to improving the lives and livelihoods of its members, as it opens the door to Take Charge America's signature tools, programs, and counseling services with our certified credit and housing counselors."
