Udemy Expands Management Team to Scale World-Class Product and Content Teams

Udemy, the leading marketplace for online education, today announced it has hired two key executives, Robert Wong, who will serve as VP of Product, and Grégory Boutté, who will join the company as VP of Content. The strategic hires will help Udemy strengthen and grow its product and content teams at a time when the company has grown to serve more than 7 million students, recently raised $65 million in Series D funding, and has experienced more than a 200 percent year-over-year increase in revenue.

"As we continue to build on our momentum, it's vital that Udemy has the best platform and richest content for our students, customers, and instructors," said Udemy CEO Dennis Yang. "I'm confident that Robert and Grégory, with their extensive experience in marketplace businesses, are the ideal leaders to guide our product and content teams as we continue to expand and reach new markets."

Wong held leadership roles at Hulu (News - Alert), where he developed, led, and scaled the product and design teams, and Microsoft, where he served as the Group Manager of Corporate Strategy to bring the business into new strategic markets. Prior to joining Udemy, Wong served as EVP of Product at Sidecar. As VP of Product at Udemy, Wong will be responsible for driving the design and product management teams, and building the best platform to teach and learn online, no matter where they are located. Wong's background with video and marketplace businesses makes him especially suited to help scale Udemy's unique marketplace model.

"Udemy has an inspiring mission to enable people everywhere to learn, and I look forward to being able to help further this mission in the training and education space, which are massive, global opportunities ripe for disruption," said Wong.

As VP of Content at Udemy, Boutté will lead global operations for the supply side of Udemy's marketplace - helping ensure the company recruits and acquires the most engaging and useful content from the world's best instructors. He'll also manage the company's extensive content library, making sure that the platform can deliver the right courses and topics based on student demand. Boutté has over 15 years of experience working at companies with marketplace business models, including eBay (News - Alert) and Sidecar. Boutté held various positions across multiple geographies at eBay over a 13-year period, most recently serving as VP of eBay Motors & Electronics for eBay North America.

"I'm excited to work to ensure our Udemy students and instructors have the best resources available to them, and to help make education truly accessible worldwide," said Boutté.

Udemy continues to reach more students and instructors every day. The Udemy platform now serves students in more than 190 countries, through 2,000 new courses created each month by more than 16,000 instructors. In addition, the company serves corporate customers, including Oracle (News - Alert), Lyft, and Pepsi, through its Udemy For Business platform, helping businesses better develop, manage, and grow their teams with the skills necessary for today's workplace. With more than 50 percent of its revenue coming from countries outside of the United States, Udemy's global presence is also increasing as the company looks to expand to new markets and make education more accessible around the world.
