Managed Data Compliance, Privacy & Security Service Offering Powered by Perspecsys Gaining Momentum Worldwide

Perspecsys, the leader in enterprise cloud data protection solutions, today announced that its award-winning AppProtex Platform is in-production and providing critical cloud data protection capabilities for organizations via its Managed Service Provider (MSP) partners leveraging the multi-tenant, multi-cloud platform. This deployment model allows organizations to gain access to Perspecsys' cloud data protection capabilities via a number of trusted managed service providers. These providers are able to provision cloud data protection services for their enterprise clients by running Perspecsys' multi-tenant platform within their own secure datacenter, allowing them to keep their clients' sensitive data fully protected as they provide a compliant and secure onramp to public cloud SaaS services.

Perspecsys' platform is part of a fast growing category of solutions that Forrester (News - Alert) calls Cloud Data Protection solutions. In a recent report on the space, Forrester noted, "In our interviews with CISOs and other technology managers responsible for protecting sensitive data, they told us that they now believe that cloud data protection (CDP) solutions are not only important, they are a mandatory security control for any firm that uses cloud services."1 There are a number of reasons why these solutions have become critical, including the benefits they deliver in the areas of data security and compliance. Compliance challenges can be sector-based or, increasingly, geographic. For example, an emerging body of laws referred to as Data Residency and Sovereignty regulations in countries like Germany, Russia, Canada and many others, make the movement of regulated data outside of a specific jurisdiction a challenge.

Within British Columbia, Canada, organizations processing Canadian citizen data need to adhere to data residency requirements spelled out in legislation such as the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA) and the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). These requirements specify that certain personally identifiable information (PII) cannot leave Canada - quite a challenge when an organization chooses a SaaS (News - Alert) solution which is hosted outside of the country. To solve this issue, Perspecsys has partnered with leading systems integrator and managed service provider CGI to provide a Data Residency Service powered by Perspecsys' AppProtex Cloud Data Protection Platform.

Organizations using CGI's (News - Alert) Managed Data Residency Service connect to their foreign-based cloud provider by first connecting to CGI's datacenters in Canada. Within the datacenter, the Perspecsys platform replaces PII with meaningless token values which are then sent to the cloud service provider outside of Canada for processing and storage. No regulated data ever leaves Canada and the end users of the cloud application are not impacted - they still use the supported cloud application's features, like searching, sorting and reporting, even on data that has been strongly tokenized.

"When privacy laws meet cloud environments, it creates complexity for many organizations that needs to be addressed with solutions and services specifically designed to meet local requirements," said Stuart Fraser, director of Consulting services, CGI. "To meet the need for organizations in British Columbia, we turned to Perspecsys for its patented cloud data tokenization solution. Perspecsys uniquely offers the capabilities that our clients need and provides us with a multi-tenant architecture and level of product maturity required by CGI to deliver a well-supported managed security service."

"The market has spoken and strict data compliance requirements need to be addressed with a strong tokenization solution in cloud use cases," said Upesh Patel, vice president of Business Development, Perspecsys. "The relationship between Perspecsys and CGI combines our innovations in cloud data control with CGI's world class capabilities in providing managed services to enterprises and government ministries in British Columbia. Organizations currently using the managed service are taking full advantage of cloud-based SaaS applications while ensuring that sensitive data stays in Canada and remains compliant with the applicable regulations."
