Thomas Siebel Interviewed on CNBC's Squawk BoxC3 Energy CEO Thomas Siebel was interviewed by CNBC's Squawk Box (News - Alert) this morning. Joining co-anchors Becky Quick, Andrew Ross Sorkin, and Scott Wapner and guest host Glenn Hutchins, Siebel discussed how next-generation technologies are being applied to global energy systems and the resultant economic, environmental, and social benefits energy companies and consumers are realizing today. "The power infrastructure worldwide is going through an upgrade this decade where $2 trillion is being invested to make all of the devices in the value chain remotely machine addressable. "We can apply the sciences of big data, cloud scale computing, analytics, and machine learning to increase the safety, increase the reliability, increase the security, lower the cost, and reduce the environmental impact of power generation and delivery by a factor of two." Siebel described the grid ugrades as a transformation to a large-scale cyber-physical system, calling it the Internet of Energy. "We're providing the software layer on top of that $2 trillion upgrade that allows grid operators like Exelon, ENGIE, and Enel to optimize the entire energy system," Siebel said.
