VeloCloud Brings SD-WAN to Equinix Performance Hubs

VeloCloud Networks Inc., a cloud networking services company, today announced it has developed a reference architecture that brings state-of-the-art Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) to Equinix's (News - Alert) Performance Hubs. As the extension of an enterprise corporate IT network co-located inside Equinix International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers, Equinix Performance Hubs strategically place corporate IT resources closer to end-user populations in Equinix data centers, resulting in increased application performance.

VeloCloud's solution enables Equinix customers to leverage SD-WAN as a cost-effective option for connecting to their Performance Hubs with the same performance, reliability and control as if these services were within the customers' private network.

"VeloCloud's development of a reference architecture for connecting to enterprise Performance Hubs inside Equinix represents a key step forward for next-generation enterprise networks," said Sanjay Uppal, CEO and co-founder of VeloCloud. "Equinix is the interconnection and data center leader, and this new architecture can help enterprises achieve unprecedented SaaS (News - Alert) application performance levels."

VeloCloud's SD-WAN solutions enable enterprises to automate branch WAN deployments, assure performance to cloud and enterprise applications, and allow enterprise IT to roll out multiple virtual services to the branch. SD-WAN control enables application traffic to be carried independently of the underlying transport layer, enabling flexibility, best availability and performance while dramatically reducing IT complexity in the branches.

VeloCloud's unique cloud-delivered approach to SD-WAN, with its multi-tenant cloud gateways co-located at major Equinix data centers, is a perfect complement to the Equinix platform. The Equinix platform provides a powerful services deployment ocation in the SD-WAN topology with optimal connections to network services and other SaaS applications. The service is currently available in Equinix IBX data centers located in Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C., metro areas in the United States.

"The combined forces of globalization and the reliance on collaborative, business-critical applications are causing significant changes in how enterprise IT operates. Our goal with Performance Hub is to help enterprise customers maximize network and application performance," said Jim Poole, vice president, service providers at Equinix. "There is an opportunity for VeloCloud to bring enterprises much closer to their Performance Hubs and mission-critical applications hosted inside Equinix, which would enable highly scalable, performance-enhancing and cost-effective alternatives to traditional connectivity architectures."

Equinix Performance Hub solutions enable enterprises by:

  • Bringing applications, cloud services and data closer to employees in a geographically distributed workforce
  • Transforming network topologies, allowing customers to integrate different technologies where they perform best
  • Providing points of interconnection for enterprises to connect directly to hybrid, private and multi-cloud environments
  • Effectively capturing and analyzing globally distributed critical data for greater insights and intelligence

Equinix Performance Hub is driven by enterprises' interest in continuing to migrate more services to distributed cloud data centers. This architecture validates VeloCloud's unique SD-WAN approach to enabling public networks to be used in an enterprise-grade WAN, and to deliver cloud-deployable multi-tenant service gateways - both of which optimally complement Equinix's solution.
