Benefitfocus Chief Technology Officer Addresses the Challenges of Big Data

Benefitfocus, Inc. (NASDAQ: BNFT), a leading provider of cloud-based benefits software solutions, today announced that Chief Technology Officer Don Taylor will embark on a roadshow to debate the challenges companies face to gather, store and manage big data. On May 20, Taylor will join senior executives from Decision Resources, Broadridge and Trulioo for the panel discussion "Getting the Data: Approaches to Managing Personal Data" at the 2015 MIT (News - Alert) Sloan CIO Symposium. He'll also be a featured speaker at {CODESHOW}SE 2015 technology conference in Charleston, S.C. His session, "Data Is the Foundation: Gathering and Storing the World's Benefits Data," closes out CODESHOW on May 21.

The topic for both events will focus on companies moving to a big data world, the challenges they face when acquiring new customer data, and associated problems of privacy, liability, security, and ethical considerations. Taylor will address the value of data and impact of new technologies that support big data during the benefits purchase and enrollment process.

"Today's CIO must address not only technology requirements but also the range of legal and ethical matters that surround the capture and use of big data," said Benefitfocus CTO Don Taylor. "The questions pervade the benefits realm, where data is highly personal and confidential. Yet, when approached properly, analytics can lead to smarter consumer decisions and better outcomes for both employees and employers. I look forward to this discussion and engaging with my fellow panelists on the best approach to big data."

Now in its 12th year, the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium is a world class, one-day conference, held on the MIT campus. Over 700 CIOs, senior IT executives and MIT academic thought leaders will network, collaborate, and explore how innovative technologies and leading-edge research can achieve accelerated technology success.

"We are at an inflection point where CIOs are increasingly breaking free of outdated business assumptions that arose from the limits of older technologies," said Lindsey Anderson, Chair of the 2015 MIT Sloan CIO Symposium. "Our speakers will provide insight into new modes of thinking, practice and collaboration that are required for the future of technology success. Attendees will leave with actionable tools on how to do this through digitization, improvements in technology, and through new thoughtful combinations of people, processes, and technology across a CIO's entire enterprise."
