WeatherBug and 10News in San Diego Partner for Real-Time, Neighborhood-Level Weather

San Diego viewers can stay updated with the latest live, local weather conditions from sensors right in their own neighborhoods, thanks to a partnership with WeatherBug® and 10News, the ABC affiliate in San Diego.

10News is the only broadcaster in the San Diego area that can tap into the WeatherBug (News - Alert) Weather Network. This network includes thousands of weather sensors and cameras nationwide. In the San Diego area, WeatherBug stations are located at PETCO Park, the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Birch Aquarium at Scripps, and area schools that include Benito Juarez Elementary School, Standley Middle School, and Mission Bay High School.

"Sunny and 72 is a common misconception of the weather in San Diego," says Megan Parry, 10News Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist. "We just completed our warmest year on record in 2014 and are starting 2015 on an even hotter note. We're in our fourth year of drought with no end in sight, which makes getting the most accurate, real-time data a necessity for our viewers."

"During Santa Ana wind events, it's critical for us to be able to pinpoint how hot, dry and windy it is down to street level," continues Parry. "And when it rains, WeatherBug will allow us to more accurately detail how much ain each neighborhood saw. Having the ability to get hyper-local data will be a vital tool to bring our viewers weather right where they live."

WeatherBug operates the world's largest real-time weather observing and lightning detection networks. WeatherBug sensors are placed right where people live and work - including thousands of K-12 schools, universities, parks, golf courses and public buildings.

10News WeatherBug Schools Program: Schools in the San Diego area are invited to join the WeatherBug Schools Program to have their weather information and images used on-air. Additionally, data from the school's weather station supports STEM initiatives in the classroom. Combined with severe weather alerting, the weather sensors provide school faculty and staff with critical information to make important safety and transportation-related decisions.
