Analyst Update: Financial Results,Strategic Partnerships and Debt Offerings

U.S. stocks tumbled on Thursday as Fed remained apprehensve about the interest rate outlook amid weaker than expected US first quarter economic data. The NASDAQ Composite was down 1.64%, to finish at 4941.42; the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 1.08%, to 17,840.52, and the S&P 500 ended 1.01% lower, at 2,085.51. Most importantly, the NASDAQ biotech index dropped 3.05% on Thursday and was down 8.1% in the past one week, led by disappointing earnings. European stocks gained on Thursday, supported by the strong euro and news of euro bloc's recovery from four consecutive months of deflation. Germany's DAX 30 rose 0.19%; France's CAC 40 jumped 0.14%, and the London's FTSE 100 closed 0.21% higher. Meanwhile, Asian markets mostly disappointed on Thursday. Japan's Nikkei, Australia's S&P ASX and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index all fell on Thursday.



Telefonica Brazil S.A. (Telefonica) announced on April 28, 2015 that it has entered into an agreement with Despegar.com where Telefonica's Movistar users across Latin America would receive exclusive discounts on all purchases made using Despegar's mobile app. As part of the agreement, the Despegar application will come preinstalled on different Android devices sold by Movistar.

Pursuant to a shelf registration statement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on April 15, 2013, Oracle Corporation (Oracle) on April 28, 2015 announced via a press release that it has priced the sale of $10 billion aggregate principal amount of investment grade notes.


Corning Incorporated (Corning) on April 28, 2015 announced its first quarter 2015 results. Corning reported a quarterly profit of $407 million, or $0.29 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $301 million, or $0.20 per share. Excluding items, the company's core earnings per share climbed to $0.35 per share from $0.29 per share in the year ago period.

Verizon Communications Inc. (Verizon) announced its first quarter 2015 results on April 21, 2015. The Company reported a non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.02 compared to $0.84 in 1Q 2014. Total operating revenues in first-quarter 2015 were $31.9 billion a 3.8% increase from $30.8 billion in 1Q 2014.

EMC Corporation (EMC) reported its first-quarter 2015 financial results, with consolidated revenues of $5.6 billion, up 2% year over year and up 6% on a constant currency basis, from previous year same periods revenue of $5.4 billion. The Company reported quarterly net income attributable to EMC of $252 million, or $0.13 per share, compared to $392 million, or $0.19 per share, in the year-ago period.
