Skills.com Inc. Launches Platform That Makes Learning Practical Skills Universally Accessible

WASHINGTON, April 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Skills.com today announced the launch of its community and platform focused on developing and sharing the world's practical skills to enhance peoples' careers and lives.  Skills.com launched at the White House Upskill Summit, joining 150 employers, labor leaders, foundations, non-profits, educators and tech innovators from across America who are answering the President's call to action and equipping workers of all ages with the skills they need to advance into better-paying jobs.

Skills.com's mission is to provide a platform where people help people develop the skills needed to succeed in today's world.  Skills.com's skills-based video library is created and curated by a community of people practicing skills every day, so it is current and relevant. Enabled by the Skills.com platform, community members acquire and demonstrate new skills that they can use today to advance in their careers and lives. On Skills.com, members share skills that they have mastered by uploading short videos that can then be viewed by other members of the community who are seeking to enhance or acquire new skills, such as sales, communication, technician and financial literacy to name a few.

"Thanks to launch Sponsors, ManpowerGroup, BMO Financial Group, Innovate+Educate and The Ontario Manufacturing Learning Consortium, the Skills.com platform and its learning content are free to our members so that learning practical skills is universally accessible - think of it as a mentor in your pocket," noted Skills.com CEO and Co-Founder Tammy Johns. "Our Sponsors are organizations who, like us, are passionate about the development of skills in their companies, industries and communities."

"Every year we find work for more than 3 million people, helping them develop their careers through coaching, training and employment opportunities.  Our Annual Talent Shortage Survey that we carry out in 42 countries with 37,000 employers continues to highlight the disconnect between available skills and what employers need," commented Mara Swan, Executive Vice President, Global Strategy and Talent, ManpowerGroup. "Creating a culture of lifelong learning is critical for business to be able to compete in such an uncertain environment.  Skills.com will help develop the skills that are most in demand in today's workplace."

"We believe that everyone can learn, everyone has skills and that the free exchange of skills can have the largest impact because it allows all of those who want to learn, or with something to share, the ability to do so," stated Skills.com founding investor Jack Hughes. "Lifelong learning is important to every single individual and it is our goal to make this more accessible, collaborative and fun."
