Free Canon Firmware Upgrade for DP-V3010 4K Reference Display Adds New and Enhanced Features, Including HDR Display
Canon (News - Alert) U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today
announced that its parent company, Canon Inc., is developing a free
firmware1 upgrade for the DP-V3010 30-inch professional 4K
Reference Display (launched in March 2014) that includes a range of new
and enhanced functions, including an HDR (News - Alert) (High Dynamic Range) display
mode.
Since its launch, the DP-V3010 display has garnered high acclaim from
professionals working in 4K digital cinema and other areas of video
production. Through the firmware upgrade, users will be able to take
advantage of such new functions as an HDR display mode, which enables
the display of HDR video with minimal underexposed and overexposed
areas, and a function for displaying content captured in the ITU-R
BT (News - Alert).2020 next-generation broadcast standard color gamut,2
which was adopted for 4K UHD-TV broadcasting tests. Due to these and
other new features, the firmware upgrade will deliver improved
efficiency for high-resolution video production and editing workflows,
providing high-quality and expressive image content.
HDR display mode The upgrade will enable the DP-V3010 to
display HDR footage captured in not only the SMPTE ST 2084 standard that
is approved by the Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers
(SMPTE), but also Canon's proprietary Canon Log and Canon Log 2 gamma
settings. The HDR display function will allow users to view and confirm
the subtle details of underexposed and overexposed areas of displayed
images, content that until now could not be fully reproduced. Supporting
user needs from input to output, the DP-V3010 can be paired with the
Canon Cinema EOS C500/C500 PL Digital Cinema Camera (released in October
2012) as well as the just announced EOS C300 Mark II Digital Cinema
Camera (to be released in early September 2015), facilitating the
creation of a wide variety of expressive, high-impact scenes.
Addition of ITU-R BT.2020 color gamut display function In
addition to the current display method provided for footage captured in
the ITU-R BT.2020 color gamut3 through Canon proprietary
technology, the upgrade allows users to maximize the reproduction of
hues that fall outside of the DP-V3010's native color gamut. By offering
two image display methods for viewing and confirming such video content,
including the device's conventional method, this helps maximize the true
reproduction of colors that fall within the DP-V3010's native color
gamut, the display allows users to select the ideal method based on
production application and workflow requirements.
Support for ACESproxy (ACES 1.0)4 The new
firmware will enable the DP-V3010 professional display to support the
latest ACESproxy transfer standard for the ACES (Academy Color Encoding
System) color management standard approved by AMPAS (the Academy of
Motion Picture Arts and Sciences). When used in combination with input
devices supporting the ACESproxy standard, the DP-V3010 display can
deliver consistent color reproduction both on-set and during the editing
process, resulting in improved workflow efficiency.
Support for Canon Log 2 for high compatibility across video-editing
workflows Through the firmware upgrade, the DP-V3010 display
will support Canon Log 2, which offers a wide dynamic range and provides
high compatibility with various video-editing workflows, such as during
the post-production color grading process. Supporting high-precision
editing procedures, the display helps facilitate a high level of
gradation expression for video captured with the EOS C300 Mark II
Digital Cinema Camera, which utilizes Canon Log 2.
New and enhanced functions for improved video-production workflow
efficiency 1) Function enabling the use of multiple LUTs5
and ASC (News - Alert) CDLs6 for each picture mode 2) Function allowing
the selection of OSD (On-Screen Display) display size 3)
Improvement in the speed with which displayed images can be switched 4)
Improvements in other areas of operability
Additional information The new firmware upgrade is expected
to be available in November 2015. Canon will be demonstrating the
DP-V3010 firmware update at the Company's #C4325 booth at the 2015 NAB
(National Association of Broadcasters) Show, to be held from April 13 to
16 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition, the DP-V3010 display's direct
sales price is now $24,999.
