Kaul received the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Via Satellite Excellence Awards breakfast ceremony held during the Satellite 2015 conference/exhibition in Washington, DC.  Via Satellite's 2014 Excellence Awards recognize people, companies, and technologies that have helped shape the success of the global satellite industry. Kaul's Lifetime Achievement Award honors his leadership of more than 30 years, citing among his many achievements: "the most noteworthy is that he successfully led Hughes as CEO since 2000 through several ownership changes, as well as becoming a publicly traded company between 2004 and 2010, all while retaining its top core employees and continuing positive growth, and remains as president of Hughes following its acquisition by EchoStar Corp. in June 2011.
