ACT-IAC's 2015 Small Business Conference to Spotlight Growth Strategies in a Quickly Changing Federal IT Landscape


The American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC) will host its 9th Annual Small Business Conference (SBC 2015), the premier one-day education and training event forum where small businesses can position themselves for growth. Jay Williams, Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, will deliver the keynote address at the event, which will be held April 22, 2015 at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, D.C.

"Small businesses are hotbeds for innovation, and in our rapidly transforming IT landscape, the public sector recognizes the tremendous value they provide," said Izella Dornell, SBC 2015 government chair. "SBC 2015 provides an informative forum devoted to propelling small businesses growth through collaboration between government and industry leaders."

Since 2007, SBC has been recognized as an unparalleled event at which prominent government and industry leaders convene to tackle challenges, explore lessons learned, and provide guidance for the small business community. The event has been named by Intuit (News - Alert) QuickBooks as "One of the Six Must-Attend Conferences for Small-Business Owners."

As a precursor to the April 22 event, ACT-IAC (News - Alert) will be hosting a Back to Basics Forum to explore the fundamentals of acquisition, bids and proposals, and financial management. This one-day educational event will be heldApril 15 at The American Institute of Architects in Washington, D.C.



"Small businesses provide solutions which enable the public sector to streamline operations and improve citizens' interactions with the government," said Rabiah Sutton SBC 2015 industry chair. "SBC 2015 will provide a robust roadmap to guide small businesses as they delve into the complex workings of the government ecosystem."

SBC 2015 will allow small businesses to build or expand their portfolios through engagement, collaboration, and actions from both government and industry with a number of unique elements, including:


  • Opportunity Pipeline - A new element of SBC, this innovative forum will include a discussion of the number one rule for company growth, strategies for small businesses to create their own opportunities and a session on the hottest opportunities for small businesses in 2015.
  • Breakout Sessions - These sessions are designed to take small business to the next level by exploring key topic areas such as exporting, technology transformation, small business innovation research, and technology transfer and the need to go back to the basics by examining 10 lessons learned generated from the April 15 Back to Basics Forum.
  • Emerging Technology Fair - This showcase will allow exhibitors from new and established companies to highlight their newest products, with attendees gaining insight and voting for their favorite technology.
  • Solution Zone - Using human-centered design concepts, this area will allow for multiple small group topical conversations with track session speakers, special guests, and other experts that will be able to answer attendees most pressing small business questions.
  • Small Business Advocacy Awards - For the second consecutive year, ACT-IAC will present two Small Business Advocacy Awards to a government and industry individual who have made a difference in promoting the growth and development of small businesses.
