IEEE Women In Engineering Produces International Leadership Conference To Empower Female Tech Pros In Career Growth

PISCATAWAY, N.J., Feb. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The gender gap in tech and engineering is drastic as only 14 percent of engineers are women1, but current programs to support and empower women in tech and engineering are focused on college majors and entry-level positions. Once women enter the field, the support drops off significantly, with no programs to help women break the glass ceiling through their mid- and senior-level careers, hindering their ultimate growth. IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) addresses this massive market need with its second annual International Leadership Conference (WIE ILC) held April 23-25, 2015, in San Jose, Calif., at the San Jose Marriott Downtown. Registration is now open here.

The event will include such executive-level speakers as Brian Krzanich, CEO, Intel, who will address the impetus behind Intel's industry-leading Diversity in Technology initiative, as well as:

  • Lisa Su, CEO, AMD
  • Rebecca Jacoby, CIO, Cisco
  • Patty Hatter, VP & GM, Intel Security
  • Yanbing Li, VP and GM, Storage and Availability, VMware
  • And many more

With the theme, Lead Beyond: Accelerating Innovative Women Who Change the World, this year's WIE ILC focuses on leadership, empowerment, innovation and entrepreneurship. Through this conference, WIE is helping to inspire a dynamic community that not only supports women in technology, science and engineering, but one that looks forward by working to grow women's careers in these fields. It is with this entrepreneurial spirit that IEEE Women in Engineering is approaching career building and advancement for women. Additionally, the conference helps cmpanies to develop better strategies for recruiting and retaining female engineers, as they represent a critical segment of the already constrained talent market for technical professionals.

The 2015 WIE ILC features presentations and panel discussions by inspiring speakers from organizations such as Intel, Xerox, AMD, Cisco, VMware, and Roche, among many others, along with engaging networking opportunities, exhibits, and a career fair. The event begins with pre-conference activities on Thursday, April 23, in San Francisco, including a Women in STEM Think Tank discussion at Square headquarters and an opening reception at Yammer headquarters. Interactive conference tracks that fuel innovation, facilitate knowledge-sharing, and foster discussion and collaboration follow on Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, at the San Jose Marriott. A free virtual conference track is also available online.

The conference workshops delve into thought-provoking discussions surrounding personal and professional growth. Empowering the next generation, the balance myth, financing and launching startups, what to expect the next five years in tech, robotics, overcoming fear of failure, building your own brand, how to think like an entrepreneur, and how to build management skills are just a few of the many stimulating and educational workshops from which to choose.

Early registration for WIE ILC ends April 3 and conference rates increase after that date. For more information or to register, go to http://ieee-wie-ilc.org/. You won't want to miss this terrific opportunity to experience outstanding professional and personal development.
