GT Software Announces COBOL Webinar Series

GT Software, the distributor of Fujitsu (News - Alert) NetCOBOL® outside of Japan, today announced its upcoming ReFOCUS Your COBOL webinar series. This special three-part event focuses on how organizations currently running COBOL applications can benefit from Fujitsu NetCOBOL for distributed platforms, such as .NET (News - Alert), Windows, or Linux. Each Webinar in the series focuses on one of three considerations for selecting a COBOL compiler for a distributed environment, diving into the specifics of cost savings, business agility and application quality.

According to Tim O'Brien, presenter and director of solutions engineering for GT Software, with 30+ years technology expertise, "Today's organizations must innovate to thrive. While COBOL has been around since 1959, it is still very pervasive and relevant for modern application development. The key lies in how well it is translated to more agile and cost-effective platforms. We've created this webinar series to share with businesses the three main considerations for maximizing ROI, agility and quality of COBOL applications in a distributed environment and scale to meet future innovation."

The first Webinar, focused on the hidden costs of distributed system COBOL compilers, and titled "Locked into an Expensive COBOL Compiler? Break Free of Runtime Fees Forever!" is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3rd at 2PM EST. It will explore the true Total Cost of Ownership, and how buyers should consider all costs, not just the obvious compiler expense.

"Cost can become a significant barrier to getting the most from COBOL assets," says O'Brien. "When considering a COBOL solution, it's critical to factor the cost of the compiler, how they are licensed and the subsequent runtime fees. Because they are often overlooked, it is the runtime fees that have the most significant impact on the bottom line."

The second of the series, "Adding the Advantage of Agility into COBOL Applications: Taking COBOL Stability to the Distributed Environment," explores how to gain coding flexibility, speed responsiveness, and improve productivity and application capabilities, without undoing your long-time investment in COBOL applications.

In the third, and final of the series, "COBOL Quality in a New Environment: Preserving Policy, Procedure and Best Practices," attendees will discover how to take advantage of long-trusted COBOL applications on a distributed platform while maintaining the reliability, stability, and predictability expected of legacy applications.
