2015 MIT Sloan CIO Symposium to Help CIOs Invent the Future and Accelerate Success through Technology

What made CIOs successful in the past will not necessarily make them successful tomorrow. CIOs need new modes of thinking and practice, which will be addressed in detail on May 20, 2015 at the 12th Annual MIT Sloan CIO Symposium, widely recognized as the nation's premier CIO event. Registration for The Symposium is now open, with early-bird savings of up to 40% available until March 1st.

The elite conference will bring over 700 CIOs, senior IT executives and MIT (News - Alert) academic thought leaders together on the MIT campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts for a full day of networking and collaboration to explore innovative technologies and leading-edge research. Ultimately, The Symposium will help attendees set a successful path for their organizations' futures.

The 2015 theme, Inventing Your Future: Accelerating Success through Technology, draws heavily from two books originating from the MIT Initiative on the Digital Economy - the New York Times best seller, The Second Machine Age by Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee (News - Alert), and the new book, Leading Digital: Turning Technology into Business Transformation, authored by George Westerman, Didier Bonnet and Andrew McAfee. All of the authors (Bonnet Brynjolfsson, McAfee and Westerman) are attending and actively participating in the day's activities.

"We are at an inflection point where CIOs are increasingly breaking free of outdated business assumptions that arose from the limits of older technologies. New modes of thinking, practice and collaboration are required," said Lindsey Anderson, Chair of the 2015 MIT Sloan CIO Symposium. "The future of success not only depends on digitization and improvements in technology, but also through new thoughtful combinations of people, processes, and technology across a CIO's entire enterprise."

More than a dozen keynote presentations and interactive panel discussions will feature business leaders, technology trendsetters, and thought leaders from academia. Topics to be addressed include:

  • Academic Keynote Panel - The Impact of Automation
  • Demand Shaping - A Better Approach to Governing IT Investments
  • Inventing the Digital Workspace
  • Cashing in on Your Data
  • The Next Generation Business: Succeeding with Ecosystems
  • The Future (and Potential) of Large-Scale Digital Experiments
  • Getting the Data - Approaches to Managing Personal Data
  • Platform Shift - How New Business Models are Changing the Shape of Industry, and the Role of CIOs
  • Your Role in Transforming Leadership for the Digital Business Environment
  • The Top Competencies of the Modern CIO
  • The Factory of the Future: Why Manufacturers Need to Digitize Their Businesses

The Symposium will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Kresge Auditorium on the MIT Campus, located at 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA. Early bird event registration pricing is effective until March 1, 2015. For more information and to register for the Symposium, visit www.mitcio.com.
