Industry Leader JEC Composites Group Names e-Xstream engineering's Digimat Software Design Innovation of the Year

MSC Software Corporation, a global leader in helping product manufacturers to advance their engineering methods with simulation software and services, today announced that e-Xstream engineering's Digimat modeling platform has been named a top innovation in composite manufacturing by the world's largest composite industry group.

The JEC Group awarded Digimat with its 2014 JEC Americas Innovation Award at its recent event in Boston. JEC awards have showcased excellence in composite manufacturing for 14 years, singling out more than 150 companies and 350 partners for contributions to improving composites technology and enhancing value for end users.

Digimat, the nonlinear, multi-scale material and structure modeling platform, was the winner in the design category. Digimat enables engineers do both micro- and macro-scale analyses of composites that predict composite performance and behavior. Digimat enabling technology - reliedupon by major material suppliers, Tier 1s and OEMS in all industries - is grouped into a set of tools, solutions and expertise aimed at helping material engineers to engineer innovative composites and structural engineers to design optimal composite structures taking into account their unique characteristics induced by the constituents and manufacturing process.

The judges based their decision on Digimat's ability to provide engineers and designers with advanced, accurate descriptions of local composite behavior. That knowledge gives them the confidence to take full advantage of composites' potential to replace metals with lighter but equally strong parts, assemblies and systems. The judges also praised Digimat's integration into existing design processes, and for bridging the gap between manufacturing process and structural analysis.

"We have spent 11 years developing Digimat into the world's leading modeling solution for engineering composite materials and structures," said Dr. Roger Assaker, CEO of e-Xstream engineering, an MSC (News - Alert) Software Company and MSC Chief material strategist. "This recognition from JEC group is a great testimony to our technology's capabilities and the team that developed it."

"With the JEC Americas Boston event focusing specifically on simulation and design, the Digimat platform was a valuable addition to our long list of JEC Innovation Awards winners. Behavioral predictions of composite materials is a key topic that e-Xstream engineering covered perfectly," said Nicolas Baudry, Market Development Manager North America, JEC Composites Group.
