Save Money and Support Local Businesses with the New App Plurro

Today, Plurro, a new app that allows people to create custom promotions at small businesses in their neighborhood, is launching in Washington, DC and Leesburg, Virginia. Plurro is hosting two launch events this weekend where customers will receive special discounts at twelve local businesses: Saturday, December 20 along the 1500 block of U Street, NW and Sunday, December 21, in Leesburg, Virginia.

Unlike on-line discount services, Plurro puts the power in the hands of the consumer and allows people to create live promotions at small businesses in their neighborhoods. It allows the consumer to decide what business they want to purchase from and when.

"What makes Plurro different is that Plurro does not overwhelm businesses with unsustainable promotions that eat into profit margins," says Kim Muhota, Founder of Plurro. "Plurro's mission is to help small businesses thrive and prosper."

All businesses participating in the launch events this weekend will provide a special discount to their customers through the app. To participate, consumers must download the free app and join a Pluro. Consumers may also nominate a small business in their community and create their own Plurro.

Saturday's event along the 1500 block of U Street, NW is in partnership with 15&U, a cooperative working to support local businesses.

"These small businesses lead the revitalization of U Street but now are struggling to compete with the major developments that followed," says Josh Belhumeur, Vice President and Partner at BRINK. "Our goal with the 15&U campaign is to attract both residents and tourists alike with the message that we provide a local, authentic, and diverse experience. Plurro is another great opportunity to progress growth within our small business community."

Sunday's event in Leesburg is in partnership with the Leesburg Downtown Business Association (LDBA), a group of retail and professional business leaders in Leesburg, Virginia.

"Our goal at the LDBA is to support businesses in our community, create a vibrant downtown atmosphere, and increase customer traffic," says Pia Miranda, Communications Chair at LDBA. "Plurro is helping us do that and we're excited about this opportunity."

15th and U Street participating stores include: Lettie Gooch, Junction Vintage, Secret Pleasures, Zawadi, Merlot's Masterpieces.

Leesburg participating stores include: Savannah's, Downs & Co., The Vintner, Caulkins Jewelers, Windy City Red Hots, Rouge Salon and DaySpa, and Jeans Whisperer.

Public officials will be attending the events this weekend and supporting the participating local businesses.
