Compass Learning® Announces Winners of $185,000 National Classroom Refresh Contest

Compass (News - Alert) Learning, a leader in learning acceleration, announced today the grand prize winners of its first annual Classroom Refresh Contest. Sponsored by Compass Learning, the contest challenged students and teachers to produce music videos demonstrating how technology can benefit and enrich classroom instruction. The winners, representing the top three video submissions from more than 120 entries from across the United States, were selected by a guest judging panel and more than 100,000 votes submitted by the general public through the contest site, www.classroomrefreshcontest.com.

The complete Classroom Refresh Contest prize package is valued at approximately $185,000, and it includes cutting-edge personalized learning software, hardware, professional development, and support packages from Compass Learning, Education Elements, SMART® Technologies, NWEA™ and Middlebury Interactive Languages™. Each of the three winning classrooms will be transformed into engaging, collaborative learning environments in which educators are able to personalize instruction to meet the needs of their students.

Grades K-5 Winner: Joe Ginter's class from St. Marys Intermediate School in St. Marys, OH. Their video, "Wish We All Would Use Technology More" can be viewed here.

"Entering the Compass Learning Classroom Refresh Contest allowed us to experience the overwhelming support we received from our community," said Ginter. "Our students witnessed a ripple effect of support which started with the school, extended to the district, the community and to the state of Ohio. The entire experience, from creating the video to promoting it, was a positive learning experience for all."

"We want to thank Compass Learning and the other sponsors for hosting the Classroom Refresh Contest. We are so grateful to have received such overwhelming support from our school, district, the Des Plaines community, and even friends from other states and countries," said Henson. "This contest was about so much more than just winning. The Classroom Refresh Contest was a way to show the students that if they take risks and work hard, it is possible to succeed and have a dream come true. "

"We were so impressed with the imagination and enthusiasm that all participating students and teachers demonstrated in this contest," said Eileen Shihadeh, Vice President at Compass Learning. "With more than 100,000 votes in total, the three winning teachers and their classes proved they are very deserving of a true classroom refresh! We are honored to make a difference in these schools by equipping them with technology that will help personalize the learning experience for each student."
