Global Data Center Provider CyrusOne Hosts AFCOM Quarterly Meeting at Site in Sterling, Va.

Global data center provider CyrusOne (News - Alert) (NASDAQ: CONE) is pleased to announce the Potomac Chapter of the Association For Computer Operations Management (AFCOM), the leading association for data center and facilities management professionals, plans to host its quarterly meeting at the CyrusOne data center in Northern Virginia, in the city of Sterling, on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. ET.

"To gain access to CyrusOne's state-of-the-art facility for our quarterly meeting is the perfect backdrop to underscore the increasing importance of our data center and facilities professionals in the Potomac area," said Dave Mulholland, president, Potomac AFCOM Chapter and vice president at PDI. "A high-quality provider like CyrusOne commits to our region because the company knows it can rely on us to serve their demanding Fortune 1000 customer needs. Our members have a very important role to play in the burgeoning data-driven marketplace of the present and future."

Northern Virginia is home to one of the world's largest clusters of data center real estate, and an estimated 70 percent of Internet traffic passes through Loudoun County, where Sterling, Va., is located.

"We are happy to host the AFCOM quarterly meeting for the Potomac Chapter. In deciding on the newest site in our portfolio, we were drawn to Sterling and Loudoun County due to the large IT talent pool and the business-friendly climate that exists in this area," said Scott Brueggeman, chief marketing officer, CyrusOne. "And our newest facility in Sterling, VA has plenty of room for future growth."

CyrusOne commissioned the first 30,000 square feet of colocation space (CSF) at its Northern Virginia site in mid-November as part of the first phase of the building. The first-phase build is 124,000 square feet, and in addition to the CSF, will have 15,000 square feet of office space and up to 12 megawatts of critical load power. At full build, the 14-acre site is expected to accommodate a shell of approximately 400,000 square feet with up to 240,000 square feet of CSF, 36,000 square feet of Class A office space, and up to 48 megawatts of critical load. The full-build numbers include the first-phase number.

Darren L. Smith, program manager, NOAA Office of the Chief Information Officer, High Performance Computing and Communications, is scheduled to speak at the quarterly meeting. The event is free for all Potomac AFCOM members, and non-members can pay a $75 admission fee to participate. The Potomac Chapter of AFCOM serves Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
