Extension Healthcare to Present Alarm Management Strategies at the mHealth Summit

Extension Healthcare announced today that its Chief Executive Officer, Todd Plesko, will present on alarm management strategies at the upcoming mHealth Summit. As part of a session titled "How mHealth is Changing Nursing", Plesko will describe how hospitals are utilizing mHealth solutions in combination with an advanced alarm management and event response platform to comply with The Joint Commission's National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) on clinical alarms.

A technically-oriented executive, Plesko's areas of subject matter expertise include communication challenges and workflows in both ambulatory and acute care settings, regulatory matters relating to mobile healthcare (mHealth), VoIP, wireless, and messaging technologies, and business transformation. Through continuing education, speaking engagements, and participation in a bevy of professional associations and boards, Todd is highly active in the Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) community.

"There are two major challenges that hospitals have traditionally viewed as separate problems to solve: communications - like text messaging - and alarm management," said Plesko. "Since communications are nearly always initiated as th result of an event - an alarm, for example - they're actually part of the same clinical workflow," he continued. "So when a hospital is thinking about the best way to deliver an alarm, alert, or text message to a recipient, they need to consider how these components will work together on a single mobile phone."

Extension Healthcare is leading the market in advanced alarm management and event response with Extension Engage™. Engage is the only alarm middleware today that combines alarms, alerts, and patient-centric text messaging into a single platform that manages these various communications simultaneously to reduce overall nursing interruptions and alarm fatigue.

The mHealth Summit convenes from December 7-10. It is the largest event of its kind and is expected to draw healthcare technology officials in government and industry, policymakers, academic researchers and students, healthcare providers, entrepreneurs, investors, public health and safety officials, and patient advocates from across mobile and connected health. Extension Healthcare will present at 5pm EST on Monday, December 8. Contact [email protected] with questions.
