Vidyo Announces VidyoWorks WebRTC Developer Platform and API

HACKENSACK, N.J. --(Business Wire)--

Vidyo, Inc., today announced WebRTC support in both the VidyoWorks™ platform and VidyoConferencing™ product portfolio. The announcement includes a new VidyoWorks Java Script (JS) API that allows developers to connect WebRTC clients to Vidyo's conferencing and communications infrastructure without requiring user installation. The company is also announcing the Vidyo Server for WebRTC that will give users with browsers supporting WebRTC full participant access to Vidyo calls with no download required. The Vidyo Server for WebRTC will also allow users to join a Vidyo conference in voice and content sharing mode from non-WebRTC compliant browsers or mobile devices. The Vidyo Server for WebRTC will enable interoperability between WebRTC, scalable video coding (SVC), and legacy H.323 and SIP.

Since 2008, the VidyoWorks platform has enabled innovative new solutions and service offerings for a variety of partners and customers. With the addition of WebRTC support, users will be able to take full advantage of Vidyo's highly scalable and secure multi-point video infrastructure and its unique ability to support heterogeneous web, native desktop, legacy H.323, VDI and mobile environments.

"For years, Vidyo has been quietly creating a new market model based on embedding video communications into third party applications and services via the VidyoWorks platform," said Dave Michels, Senior Analyst, Wainhouse Research. "The availability of the VidyoWorks WebRTC API along with support for VP8 in the VidyoConferencing product portfolio, will give millions of consumer devices seamless access to Vidyo's highly scalable platform, vastly increasing the number of potential developer partners for the company."

Support for VP9 is the next step in the company's commitment to WebRTC. Vidyo and Google first announced their collaboration to enhance the video quality in WebRTC VP9 back in 2013. By offering its expertise in scalable video coding to the WebRTC open source initiative, Vidyo will allow WebRTC-based browsers and endpoints using scalable VP9 to benefit from the VidyoRouter™ architecture and VidyoWorks platform. Scalable VP9 will deliver improvements in video quality, resilience and scale that are essential for the types of deployments anticipated for WebRTC.

"Vidyo's WebRTC strategy provides a clear path to a richer video experience without client installation, today with VP8 and with scalable VP9 in future," said Ofer Shapiro (News - Alert), CEO, Vidyo. "Extending WebRTC support into Vidyo's platform and product portfolio is a natural progression and a testament to our continued leadership role in emerging standards in both the WebRTC and h.26x worlds. Adding support for WebRTC allows our partners, developers and customers to better reach their end users."

Schedule a meeting with Vidyo at the WebRTC Conference and Expo V, November 18th-20th at the San Jose Convention Center - San Jose, CA (News - Alert).

Background on WebRTC:

WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) is an API definition being drafted by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C (News - Alert)) to enable native browser applications for voice calling, video chat and P2P file sharing without plugins. The original project known as WebRTC, for browser-based real-time communication, was open sourced by Google (News - Alert) and has been followed by ongoing work to standardize the relevant protocols in the IETF and browser APIs in the W3C.
