T.E.N. Announces Winners of the ISE® North America Awards(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WASHINGTON and ATLANTA (PRWEB) November 06, 2014 T.E.N., a technology and information security executive networking and relationship-marketing firm, honored finalists and winners Wednesday evening at the 2014 ISE® North America Leadership Summit and Awards Gala at the Westin Alexandria in Alexandria, Va. The ISE® North America awards recognize both information security executives and project teams for outstanding achievements in risk management, data asset protection, compliance, privacy and network security. Award program participants are located across the U.S. and Canada, and nominations were considered within four categories based on industry classification, including Academic/Public Sector, Commercial, Financial Services and Health Care. "We were amazed by the accomplishments of our record 75 executive and project nominees," said Marci McCarthy, CEO and president, T.E.N. "These nominees have tackled many of security's most difficult challenges in order to better protect their organizations and bring innovation to the industry." Academic/Public Sector Category Brian Engle, chief information security officer for the State of Texas, was selected as the Information Security Executive® of the Year Award winner in the Academic/Public Sector Category. Engle advises the executive leadership of nearly 200 independent agency and higher education organizations on protecting state government information resources, and he oversees statewide cyber security strategy and the enterprise security program, operations, and services. Michael Dent, chief information security officer for Fairfax County Government, was the runner up in this category. The "SWAMP" project, submitted by the Software Assurance Marketplace, a non-profit organization funded by the Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate, was selected as the ISE® North America Project of the Year in the Academic/Public Sector Category. This project described the organization's no-cost, high-performance computing platform that offers an array of open source and commercial software security testing tools that comprehensively analyze software for weaknesses. Finalists included the Government of New Brunswick project, "Security Event Management Centre," and the University of Connecticut's "Comcast Center for Excellence in CSI & CHASE." Commercial Category Kenneth Haertling, chief information security officer for TELUS, was selected as the Information Security Executive® of the Year Award winner in the Commercial Category. Haertling leads a world-class security program that has successful deployed solutions and innovative concepts protect it's 40,000 employees and 13 million subscribers by addressing important challenges, such as BYOD and mobile device management, NextGen identity and access management, PCI Compliance, and many others. Finalists included Charles Hudson, executive director national governance, risk and compliance, and Vijay Viswanathan, chief information security officer, HD Supply. TELUS's "Argus," was selected as the ISE® North America Project of the Year in the Commercial Category. Inspired by the multi-eyed giant of Greek mythology, "Argus" is an all-seeing system designed to intelligently and automatically detect system and network intrusions then automate and monitor their containment and remediation. Finalists included the Comcast project, "IT Security Analytics," and the Warner Bros. project, "Put Yourself in the (Information Security) Picture." Financial Services Category Roland Cloutier, chief information security officer for ADP, was selected as the Information Security Executive® of the Year Award winner in the Financial Services Category, a new category for 2014. Under his direction, the Global Security Organization at ADP has undergone significant measures to better protect the enterprise, streamline risk assessment and drive security awareness across the entire organization. Finalists included John Schramm, vice president global information risk management and chief information risk officer for Manulife/John Hancock, and Jeffrey Wright, vice president and chief information security officer for Allstate. The MIAX Options "Enterprise-wide Risk Dashboard and Alerting Project" was selected as the ISE® North America Project of the Year in the Financial Services Category. This project focused on deploying a best-of-breed security information and event management solution, which now enables every business unit within the organization – from regulatory compliance to trade operations to security – to monitor, alert and report on corporate-wide risks, and has become the messaging backbone of the entire organization. Finalists included the CitiSecure Platform project, "Citi Network Access Control" and USAA's project, "Next Generation Identity and Access Management." Health Care Category Jim Routh, chief information security officer for Aetna, was selected as the Information Security Executive® of the Year Award winner in the Health Care Category. As the Global Information Security team leader, he has invested in several game-changing technologies, built strong ties with the C-Suite, and developed a risk-driven information security program that successfully meets the demands of the rapidly evolving health care industry. Finalists included Scott Pettigrew, vice president and chief security officer for HMS, and Vikrant Arora, senior director for the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation. Aetna's "Software Security Program" was selected as the ISE® North America Project of the Year in the Health Care Category. The project integrates security controls into the enterprise's software delivery methodologies to improve developer productivity in producing resilient software, while also fundamentally reducing security risk in Aetna's software assets. St. Joseph Health's project, "Pillars of Security" was the runner up in this category. People's Choice Award Jason Witty, chief information security officer for U.S. Bancorp, was named the ISE® North America People's Choice Award Winner. This award represents the nominee who best exemplifies information security leadership as voted on by peers in information security. Luminary Leadership Award Also honored during Wednesday's awards program was the 2014 Luminary Leadership Award winner William H. Murray, author, industry visionary and former security leader at IBM.
