Tele2 escaped the title of biggest phone number loser in October

(LETA Latvian News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) TALLINN, November 6 (LETA) - Mobile phone operator Tele2, that lost the biggest amount of phone numbers in Estonia to phone number portability, as compared to its competitors, for two years in a row, managed to be in black in October, Public Broadcasting reports.

While Elisa gained 216 numbers in October, Tele2 followed with 183 numbers. EMT lost in October 399 numbers due to portability, Technical Supervision Board phone number portability statistics indicate.

In the first 10 months of the year, Tele2 has lost 5,970 numbers Elisa and EMT have gained, 5,785 and 711 numbers respectively.

Mobile number portability (MNP) enables mobile telephone users to retain their mobile telephone numbers when changing from one mobile network operator to another.

Tele2 spokesman Hans Saarvelt has said that the number portability statistics only shows the balance between the operators but doesn't take the general picture into account.

In 2013 as a whole, Tele2 lost 15,600 phone numbers in Estonia to phone number portability, while Elisa gained 12,800 numbers and EMT 2,800 numbers.
