Brazil : TELCOS forced to deliver 80% of contracted broadband in BRAZIL [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) As of November 2014, telecommunications firms operating in Brazil will be forced to deliver 80% of the average broadband speed contracted by consumers.

This is part of a set of service quality rules for multimedia communications, set by Anatel in 2012, the Brazilian telecommunications body, to stop firms from arbitrarily decreasing speeds of business and residential broadband contracts.

Before that, firms would deliver around 10% of what had been promised on contract. Average Internet speed lags behind the rest of the world in Brazil. The nation occupies the 89th position among 136 other nations considered in a recent research by Akamai.

At the time they were enforced, the rules determined that a minimum of 60% of the contracted speed should be given . This has gone up to 70% in 2013 and the final stage sets the 80% bar.
