Fierce Innovation Awards: Telecom Edition Announces Finalists, AOptix Recognized

CAMPBELL, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

AOptix, a pioneer in ultra-high capacity wireless communications, announced today that it has been selected as a finalist in this year's Fierce Innovation Awards: Telecom Edition, an operator-reviewed awards program from the publishers of FierceWireless (News - Alert), FierceTelecom and FierceCable. AOptix was recognized as a finalist in the category of Metrocell Backhaul.

AOptix was selected as a finalist for its IntellimaxTM Product, a high-capacity wireless transport product that delivers fiber-like performance, offering the greatest bandwidth of any wireless networking technology on the market. It is the first Composite Optical-RF solution and is capable of delivering carrier-grade availability and 2 Gbps constant data rate at distances up to 10 kilometers.

The technology behind Intellimax was originally developed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Defense and has been proven in advanced defense applications, including the creation of a "wireless network-in-the-sky", connecting aircraft flying at high altitudes and mach speeds to transmit 80 gigabits of data over hundreds of kilometers to both air and ground platforms.

In November 2013, Intellimax became generally available worldwide for a range of commercial wireless applications, including mobile backhaul, enterprise access, and low latency networks. Service providers looking to alleviate growing network logjams no longer have to choose between high capacity, distance, carrier grade availability, or deployment flexibility. Intellimax offers the high-level capacity required by metrocell backhaul without the restrictions on cost or deployment of fiber.

Fnalists' applications were judged by an exclusive carrier-only panel of executives from AT&T, CableLabs (News - Alert), Cablevision System Corporation, Comcast, Cox Communications, Inc., Orange, Sprint, TeliaSonera International Carrier and Verizon. Full profiles of the judges can be found at https://www.fierceinnovationawards.com/telecom/2014/judges.

All applications were evaluated based on the following criteria: technology innovation, financial impact, market validation, compatibility with existing networks, end-user customer experience and overall level of innovation.

"The recognition of the AOptix Intellimax by the Fierce Innovation Awards serves as further confirmation of the value that the unique AOptix Composite Optical-RF technology brings to the wireless telecommunications industry," said Christina Richards, Vice President of Marketing at AOptix. "The multi-gigabit carrier-grade transport capability that the Intellimax provides makes it particularly suited to alleviating the high-density metrocell network bottlenecks. As mobile data traffic needs continue to grow, this becomes an ever more pressing concern for Service Providers. We're delighted to be nominated for this important award."

Winners will be announced via webcast on November 12, 2014. To learn more about AOptix, visit http://www.aoptix.com/
