NTT Docomo announces fixed-line broadband combo [Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates)]

(Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) NTT Docomo Inc. has announced that it will start a new fixed-line broadband connection service, Docomo hikari, utilizing the optical lines of NTT East and NTT West, in February 2015.

NTT will introduce a combined discount plan, Docomo hikari pack, for its mobile phone service and the broadband service.

The precise discount rate will be decided later. Docomo President Kaoru Kato said the fee for the optical service will be cheaper for customers with heavy usage of mobile data communications.

KDDI Corp. and SoftBank Mobile Corp., a unit of SoftBank Corp., have already started combined discount plans for mobile and fixed-line communications.

The NTT group has tried to compete by introducing a similar discount but it was not approved, as the group was judged a market-dominating business operator under the Telecommunications Business Act.

This time, Docomo procured optical lines from NTT East and NTT West, enabling the effective combined discount.
