(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BHUBANESWAR: Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic wing of Infosys Limited, will construct toilets in 109 government schools in Bhubaneswar, said chairperson of the foundation Sudha Murthy here on Monday. The foundation will also actively participate in the Swachh Vidyalaya campaign in the state, she added. She met chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the state secretariat and discussed the matter. Murthy also proposed to sponsor construction of a road in Jagatsinghpur district, an official release said. The state government also urged the foundation to support computer literacy programmes in schools through software service provider, Infosys. Murthy accepted the proposal and also said that the company would help in providing training to trainers for imparting computer education to schoolchildren in the state. Besides, Infosys will also provide advanced training to 60 boys and girls of the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) and help in improving their employability, said Murthy. According to the status of school toilets on the Union ministry of human resources development website, a total of 20,716 (35 per cent) government schools in the state don't have proper toilets for girls. About 38.5 per cent of schools do not have toilets for boys. In 13,452 schools, toilets were never built while 9,040 toilets are not in working condition, the website says. The state government had recently urged corporate houses and public sector undertakings to contribute for construction of toilets in primary, upper primary and secondary schools in 30 districts of the state.
