DEWA, Microsoft launch e-service app [ITP.net (United Arab Emirates)]

(ITP.net (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Microsoft Gulf today announced the launch of an e-government service for Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to support the utility's compliance with Dubai's ongoing Smart City initiative.

DEWA 2.0 is an upgraded application that is now compatible with Microsoft's Windows 8.1 operating system. Additional features "help provide DEWA's customers with convenient and instant access to a wide range of services", according to a joint statement from DEWA and Microsoft.

"In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,... we constantly improve our services to simplify and accelerate processes, achieve customers' satisfaction and exceed their expectations," said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA. "The new improved app, in collaboration with Microsoft, supports our efforts in smart government, information technology and smart services, which [enables customers] to reach DEWA's services and complete their transactions, anytime, anywhere." "At Microsoft Gulf, we leverage technology to empower user-experience and simplify day-to-day activities," said Samer Abu Ltaif, regional general manager, Microsoft Gulf. "We are confident that this application will deliver that, through facilitating quick access to information about DEWA, and through the natural interface of Windows. We know this app is an important step in supporting the plan of transforming Dubai to a Smart City, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank DEWA for working with us on this initiative." "DEWA's smart app provides more than 150 services and features," said Moza Ibrahim Al Akraf, acting CIO of DEWA. "Customers can view and pay their bills, view a graphical presentation of their electricity and water consumption, and check their carbon footprint. The free application can be installed on computers and tablets at the Windows Store." (c) 2014 ITP Business Publishing Ltd. All Rights Reserved. Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (Syndigate.info).
