Weco, Cisco Unveil Advanced Data Centre

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Weco Systems International, a systems integration company, has partnered Cisco Systems, a worldwide player in networking, to introduce an advanced data centre architecture called Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) to organisations that are particular about productivity, smart and agile data centre.

The partnership was concluded at a workshop held in Lagos recently, tagged: 'Building Smart and Agile Data Centres for Business Transformation.' Service Provider Systems Engineer, Africa, Cisco Systems, Mr. Olawale Owoeye, said: "Industry shifts are redefining IT at all levels. On-premise, IT consumption models are shifting to cloud-based services. IT as a service (IaaS) is supplanted by applications as a service. Separate development and operations are moving toward integrated development and operations (DevOps). Box-centric management models are migrating to application-centric management. Business agility requires application agility, so IT teams need to provision applications in hours instead of months. Resources need to scale up (or down) in minutes, not hours", he said. According to him, traditional approaches take a soloed operational view, with no common operational model between the application, network, security, and cloud teams. "A common operational model delivers application agility, simplified operations, assured performance, and scale," he said. Owoeye further explained during his presentation tagged: "Building the next Generation Datacentre, an application -Centric approach" that Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) in the data centre is a holistic architecture with centralised automation and policy-driven application profiles.

"ACI delivers software flexibility with the scalability of hardware performance. Upgrading data centre switches will allow organisations need to among others, deliver performance, scale, and capacity to meet the demands of virtualisation, cloud, and critical applications; simplify management and operations regardless of architectural preference; make use of built-in, intelligence capabilities to help align the network to both business and application requirements today and in the future. With virtualization, mobility, and distributed application acceleration, Weco System's proposed Cisco Nexus Series of switches offer a robust physical and virtual networking portfolio," he said. Owoeye added that with these Nexus switches, organisations could build an agile and efficient network foundation that helps deliver high availability, workload mobility, and secure multi-tenancy.

The switches help address the needs of distributed applications (such as big data/Apache Hadoop) and data base applications such as Oracle and SAP), running on bare-metal and requiring optimal I/O performance. Cisco Nexus 9000 Series creates the network foundation that allows for the creation of an application centric infrastructure that can radically simplify, optimise, and accelerate the entire application deployment lifecycle. The proposed solution's fabric-based architecture accommodates increased, application-level flexibility; this translates into a more dynamic network infrastructure in which resources can be pooled and freely moved for a more scalable, simplified data centre.
