"I feel I really know what is going on across the whole office which allows me to understand so much more." Much of his day is spent on the phone or his PC but in between that he can be doing anything from giving opening speeches at receptions to finding the best deal for a new call centre.

"I can use my initiative and run with ideas. It is brilliant for my confidence," he says.

"I just want to learn as much as I possibly can," says Scott, 20, who is working towards his Chartered Institute of Marketing diplomas. He once considered going to university. "But when someone came to talk to us about apprenticeships I realised I needed to get out in the world and pick up the skills I will need to run my own business one day. I didn't want the debt of university either! I'm getting all the support I need here to learn the nuts and bolts of business."
