United States : O2 UK selects ZAYO to build fibre network [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) O2 UK, a British mobile network operator has inked a 15 year agreement with US-based global bandwidth infrastructure services provider Zayo Group to construct and manage a fully resilient core fibre network country-wide.

The vendor said that the deal will move O2 UK from SDH and Ethernet-based managed services infrastructure to a dedicated fibre optic network which connects mobile switching sites.

The new infrastructure is to offer O2 UK flexible capacity to house growing demand for mobile data driven by its deployment of LTE technology.

The fibre infrastructure will stretch from Glasgow to Salisbury, and cover towns comprising Slough, Newcastle and London.

Adrian Di Meo, O2 UK s chief technology officer said: With the O2 4G network now covering over 260 towns and cities and half of the UK population, there has been unprecedented growth in the amount of data traffic transmitted across the network. Deploying high capacity core fibre is essential when faced with this increase in data traffic and the resilience and reliability of our network is important for customers.
