Fairfax County EDA Sponsors Israeli Conference Focusing on Homeland Security and Technology Issues

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va., Oct. 28 -- Fairfax County Economic Development Authority issued the following news release: The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) is a sponsor of the Israel HLS 2014 conference in Tel Aviv November 9-12 that will focus on homeland security and cybersecurity issues and technology. The Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute organizes this biannual event for public-sector officials and industry representatives to discuss topics such as cyber crime, homeland security technologies, operational continuity, emergency response, and protection of critical infrastructure.

At the conference, Yair Ephrati, director of the FCEDA's Tel Aviv office, will moderate "Using the relationship of trust between the people and the government as a means of emergency situation management," a November 11 panel discussion on how to manage emergency situations more effectively.

Fairfax County, minutes from Washington, D.C., has emerged as a homeland security and cybersecurity industry center with a strong cluster of defense, cyber and information technology companies, government agencies, and academic institutions and research centers. About 12.6 percent of Department of Homeland Security procurement in fiscal 2014 went to Fairfax County businesses, according to the Federal Procurement Data System.

The FCEDA opened an office in Tel Aviv in 2004 to work with Israeli companies considering expansion in the U.S. market. More than 25 Israel-based companies or those with roots in Israel have operations in Fairfax County, including many that have a focus on security or defense technologies.

In addition to the FCEDA, several Israeli or Israel-founded companies with operations in Fairfax County are sponsors of Israel HLS 2014: Elbit Systems of America; Magal-Senstar and Verint Systems. Other Israeli companies with operations in the county are exhibiting at the conference: Beyond Security, El-Far Electronics, and the Artis subsidiary of Plasan.

"We are delighted to be a sponsor of this event for the third time, because it involves many of the major players involved in tackling homeland security and cybersecurity issues for the public and private sectors, and it focuses on industry sectors in which Fairfax County is a global leader," said Gerald L. Gordon, Ph.D., president and CEO of the FCEDA. "Because of its proximity to Washington and the Pentagon, and because of the presence of many companies developing homeland security and cybersecurity technologies, Fairfax County should be the location of choice of Israeli companies that want to have an impact in the U.S. market." Time magazine called Fairfax County "one of the great economic success stories of our time." Business growth and innovation helps Fairfax County fund the nation's top-rated school system and other public services that contribute to the quality of life of residents. Fairfax County offers businesses a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure, access to global markets through Washington Dulles International Airport, a vibrant investment capital community and a highly skilled, well-educated workforce.
