Encap Security Adds iPhone Biometrics to Arsenal [Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates)]

(Emirates News Agency (WAM) (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Norwegian firm Encap Security, which offers in-app authentication software for financial services providers, has announced that Apple's Touch ID has been incorporated into their platform.

Touch ID is, of course, the fingerprint-scanning biometric technology now finding its way onto all new Apple mobile devices. A major component of Apple Pay, Apple's mobile commerce platform, the Touch ID's API is available to third-party developers so that it can be incorporated into their apps. Encap apparently leapt at the opportunity, noting in a press release that with Apple's latest offerings, "fingerprint-based biometrics has entered the mainstream," providing Encap and its clients an opportunity "to leverage this convenient, widely-accessible authentication feature" along with other security technologies to provide a more secure and convenient customer experience.

While Encap is keen to note that Touch ID provides an extra security layer "when expertly layered with other factors of authentication" – ie. when used in concert with Encap's other security services – the company's embrace of the technology lends more credibility to Apple's system and could boost the case for Apple Pay as the company fights to allay consumers' anxieties about security and push the new mobile payment service into the mainstream.
