WNBA President to Speak

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ST. CLOUD, Minn., Oct. 23 -- St. Cloud State University issued the following news release: WNBA President Laurel Richie will speak 7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Husky Den at Herb Brooks Hockey Center.

Richie, who joined the Women's National Basketball Association in 2011, has more than three decades of experience in consumer marketing, corporate branding, public relations and corporate management.

The School of Health and Human Services Fall Colloquium presentation is free and open to the public. Those attending are asked to RSVP to Diane Schmitt at [email protected].

Parking is free on the streets adjacent to campus and $1.50 per hour in the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp.

Prior to leading the WNBA, she served as senior vice president and chief marketing officer for the Girl Scouts of the USA. She previously worked at Leo Burnett Worldwide, a Chicago-based advertising agency, where she marketed a host of Proctor & Gamble brands. She also spent two decades working at Ogilvy & Mather building brands for blue chip clients including American Express, Pepperidge Farm and Unilever.

The School of Health and Human Services Colloquium series features a different speaker each semester highlighting one of the school's departments or programs. The Fall Colloquium is being hosted by the Department of Kinesiology. It is the fourth colloquium put on by the school since its formation in 2012.

Richie will speak on "The WNBA: Showing the World What is Possible." In addition to addressing the WNBA, Kinesiology Chairwoman Laura Finch asked Richie to speak about how she's combining her background in marketing and nonprofit to work with the WNBA, women in sport and how to build a fan base.

"Her background is a natural link with our recreation and sport management programs as well as our coaching students," she said. "We also hope it will draw an audience from the Herberger Business School because of her strong marketing background." Richie is a recipient of the YMCA Black Achiever's Award and Ebony magazine's Outstanding Women in Marketing and Communications. The Network Journal named her one of the 25 Influential Black Women in Business in 2011.

"I've heard her speak, so I know she's a good speaker," said Finch, who's seen Richie speak both as part of the Girl Scouts organization and with the WNBA. "She's got amazing marketing background. She's always in the public eye." TNS 30TagarumaMar-141024-4912085 30TagarumaMar (c) 2014 Targeted News Service
