EE working on the 4G roll out [Western Daily Press (UK)]

(Western Daily Press (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Britain's biggest mobile operator EE said it added a record 1.4 million 4G customers during the third quarter and is on track to top six million customers by the end of the year. The Hatfield-based firm said in the three months to September 30 its 4G customer base stood at 5.6 million, giving it the largest 4G base of any operator in Europe.

It added that 82 per cent of its new post pay contract customers chose 4G services and that the business now has over 6,200 corporate clients that include MasterCard, Reading Council and Scotia Gas.

But despite these higher numbers the group - a 2010 joint venture between Orange and T-Mobile - said its operating revenue excluding the impact of regulatory changes was flat. EE added it had now rolled out 4G to over 75 per cent of people, with double speed 4G set to be online in 40 cities by the end of the year.

It said that 60.3 per cent of its customers were now on post pay contracts, generating around six times higher average revenues per user than pay-as-you-go customers.

Earlier this month the group announced plans for a new television service, called EE TV.

EE chief financial officer Neal Milsom said: "We are delivering consistent underlying performance in a highly competitive environment while continuing to face significant regulatory pressure." (c) 2014 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
