Samsung picks British startup Bango for billing

(City A.M. (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) CAMBRIDGE-based carrier billings startup Bango has signed a deal with Samsung to preload its software on the South Korean tech giant's smartphones, letting consumers charge games, music and videos directly from their mobile phone bills.

Shares in the Aim-listed company jumped 5.76 per cent on the news to 101p in London, valuing Bango at over £50m.

"Under the terms of the agree-ment, Bango will provide carrier billing, collection and settlement for digital content - such as games, ebooks, music and videos - purchased through the Samsung Galaxy Apps app store," said Bango in a statement.

Bango recently raised £6m via a shares placing to fund its expansion plans and accelerate the pace of its global rollout.

Bango also provides carrier billing services for Amazon, BlackBerry, Facebook, Firefox, Google Play, Windows Phone and a number of individual app publishers such as EA and CNN.

Bango said its incorporation into Samsung smartphones would begin immediately rolling out across a wide range of countries.

Neither company revealed financial details of the deal.
