Rogers, Staples Canada and Bell Canada win Benefits Canada Workplace Benefits Awards

(Canada Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Leading Canadian companies partnered with Morneau Shepell to offer employees new support programs in the areas of absence management, mental health and strategic partnerships TORONTO, Oct. 21, 2014 /CNW/ - Morneau Shepell (TSX: MSI), the largest company in Canada offering human resources consulting and outsourcing services, is pleased to congratulate Rogers Communications, Staples Canada and Bell Canada on their Benefits Canada 2014 Workplace Health and Benefits Awards. The annual awards are designed to honour organizations and individuals who have demonstrated leadership and innovation – and who have made a real difference in the benefits industry.

Rogers took home the award for best practices in absence management. The accolade recognizes an organization that has developed best practices in absence management processes for the benefit of its employees.

"We are very excited to have been recognized by a panel of industry experts on workplace health and benefits in Canada," said Jamie Farrell, Director, Benefit and Investment Programs at Rogers. "Through the adoption of a structured absence management program, we were able to understand the true patterns of absenteeism so that strategies can be developed to support the overall health, wellbeing and productivity of our employees." Staples Canada, the leader in office supplies and Canada's largest online retailer, took home the award in the strategic partner category. This award recognizes an employer that has worked with a supporting organization to develop an innovative and effective benefits initiative.

"Staples is a world-class retailer that prides itself on offering best-in-class customer service, and it was exciting for us to have the opportunity to work with them on developing an internal program that would provide the same level of service for its employees," said Joy Sloane,  Partner at Morneau Shepell.

Bell Canada won the award for mental health that recognizes an organization which has developed a creative and effective mental health initiative to support and encourage the psychological well-being of employees and is an early adopter of the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.  Morneau Shepell has been an active partner in supporting Bell, a leader in Canadian mental health awareness, in the implementation of its mental health management system and the creation and delivery of its workplace mental health training program – including the development and integration of its new expanded mental health certificate program.

"Workplace mental health is a key action pillar of the Bell Let's Talk initiative and having implemented Canada's first mandatory mental health training program for all managers, Bell is eager to move forward with this next phase of training in order to ensure a mentally healthy workplace," said Lucie Dutil, Bell Canada's vice-president of pensions and benefits.

"Helping organizations help their people is at the heart of our business," said Alan Torrie, President and CEO, Morneau Shepell. "We are proud to assist our clients in promoting and encouraging the mental, physical and financial well-being of their employees." The awards were received during Benefits Canada's 2014 Workplace Benefits Awards gala celebration, held at the Arcadian Court in Toronto.
