Shares on Prague bourse stagnate as CEZ, O2 fall and Erste grows


(Czech News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Prague, Oct 20 (CTK) Shares on the Prague Stock Exchange (BCPP) stagnated today after almost 3 percent growth on Friday and the PX index lost 0.09 percent to 925.96 points, with power utility CEZ and telecoms firm O2 falling and Erste Bank increasing, according to data on the bourse's website.



CEZ shares lagged significantly behind the other energy sector stocks, analyst Martin Oliva of company Patria Finance said.

CEZ lost 1.12 percent to Kc573.50. O2 decreased by 1.71 percent to Kc270.10 Komercni banka recorded the highest trading volume and accounted for more than a half of the total trading turnover today, but it closed unchanged at Kc4,695.


Erste Bank, the second bank issue in the PX index, rose by 1.22 percent to Kc490.30.

Spirits producer Stock increased by 2.09 percent to Kc105.10 and brewery Pivovary Lobkowicz added 1.41 percent to Kc165.

In contrast, media company CME lost 1.36 percent to Kc50.80.

The Czech crown weakened by 5 hellers versus both euro and dollar today and closed at Kc27.56/EUR and Kc21.57/$.

"The currency development reflected the negative sentiment on global markets, noticeable in declining stock indices," Komercni banka's chief economist Jan Vejmelek said.
