ALCATEL-LUCENT BETS BIG ON VIDEO SERVICES

(Indian Business Insight Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Alcatel-Lucent, the French network equipment maker, forecasts India to be the next big market after Europe for the cloud Digital Video Recording (DVR) services. The company opines that with the emergence of fibre optic network, India is a progressive market for such services. Cloud DVR enables broadband operators and payTV players to deliver video contents to customers which they can watch at any location on their own schedule on their chosen device. The programmes recorded by users are stored in remote servers instead of set-top boxes. This facility puts end to the usage of set-top boxes and replaced by smart devises like Tablets, smart TVs and Apple TVs. The company is in talks with Indian players and expects to see positive results within a year. Alcatel-Lucent is aiming to increase the employee strength at its Chennai development centre from 75 to 100 by 2015. The Chennai centre played a significant role in company's global video service end-to-end delivery.
