Korea Democratic peoples Republic of : KT associates with Alcatel-Lucent on networks [TendersInfo (India)](TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Alcatel-Lucent has decided with KT to team up on building infrastructure based on network functions virtualization (NFV) technology. The tie-up is likely to assist KT's drive to bolster its GiGA Internet service that is 3 times faster than the present broadband long-term evolution advanced (LTE-A) network. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) is signed by the French global telecommunications equipment giant with KT to develop new telecom architectures using Alcatel's cloud-based NFV technology to improve network efficiency and save costs. Jeon Hong-beom, chief of KT's technology infra laboratory center, in a joint statement said, "We expect this collaboration to help us create converged services based on our GiGA Internet services and develop new profit models . Yoo Chi-il, chief executive of Alcatel-Lucent's Korean branch, in the statement said, "Alcatel-Lucent and KT share a vision of the strategic importance of virtualization and cloud infrastructure and service formation. We look forward to helping KT transition its EPC (evolved packet core) network functions to operate in an NFV environment . Statement added that Virtualized evolved packet core and CloudBand NFV are the key targets that the companies are aiming at. Customers with the collaboration could conduct demonstrations and interoperability testing of virtualized products over the CloudBand NFV platform to support KT's network transformation initiatives. Since KT CEO Hwang Chang-gyu took office early this year, the company has been improving its competitiveness on its conventionally strong network-related business models by restructuring some non-profitable models. KT spokesman Kim Dong-woo said it is seeking to help corporate and general customers understand how to build profitable cloud service offerings amid industry's convergence.
