Saft batteries at APTA Expo, October 13-15, Houston, Texas [Global Data Point]

(Global Data Point Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The company will showcase its energy storage and power system design capabilities for public transportation applications during the APTA EXPO, booth #1727 in Hall A of the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas, Oct. 13-15.

"Public transportation applications are varied in terms of technical, safety and performance requirements," said Carl Wikse, Saft Director of Public Transit Sales. "Saft has more than 60 years of experience in pioneering advanced battery technology to meet the evolving needs of the public transportation sector with turnkey power solutions that are also forging new boundaries for our customers." Saft batteries offer the broadest range of reliable, high-tech battery technologies on the market to meet all technical, safety and performance requirements across transportation segments. For both new-build and replacement projects, Saft's systems have optimized weight and volume, low maintenance and low lifecycle costs for main applications such as auxiliary backup, engine starting, regenerative traction and trackside signaling.

The following Saft capabilities will be on display at the show: Li-ion Regenerative Hybrid Traction Battery - Eco-driving railways to increase energy efficiency Saft's innovative Li-ion onboard regenerative hybrid traction battery systems are designed to enable rail operators to capture, store and reuse rolling stock braking energy for traction - resulting in energy efficiency, financial benefits and reduced environmental impact. Saft Li-ion regenerative hybrid traction battery systems have an innovative modular design which allows engineering of different battery configurations meeting customers' application requirements in one high performance system. The Modul'ion® 12 Power (Mi-12 PFe in 40 V %7E in 20 V) connected in series have high power performances in charge and in discharge, managed though a Saft Power Box that is assembled in a battery box that can be integrated into the rail equipment. Such battery system suits a multitude of rolling stock: light rail systems including trams, streetcars and tram-trains; electric-powered trains including Electric Multiple Units (EMUs); diesel hybrid, diesel shunting and freight locomotives, DMUs and Automated People Movers (APMs).

Intensium® Max - Li-ion trackside energy storage system Saft's Intensium® Max is a ready-to-install containerized solution designed for today's electricity grids and for the smart grids of tomorrow. It provides a complete, fully integrated energy storage system at the megawatt scale comprising Li-ion battery modules, power management and control interfaces, air conditioning and safety devices.

SMRX-F3 - For backup and diesel engine starting Saft's SMRX-F3 Ni-Cd batteries meet the specific needs of North America's OEMs and railway operators for reliable onboard backup power and instant diesel locomotive engine starting for a wide temperature range. The SMRX-F3 battery design encompasses ultra-light and compact cells housed in transparent flame retardant polysulfone containers. SMRX-F3 battery systems deliver reliable, high-energy and backup power that ensures: passenger safety and comfort (lighting, door control, ventilation, communication and WiFi systems) and fail-safe train start-up (pantograph lifting, computer and electronic systems).

SRX - Delivering high power performance for railways Saft SRX Ni-Cd batteries are designed to provide very high performance and reliability in rail applications for a wide temperature range, such as diesel locomotive starting and emergency braking of metros and high speed trains. SRX batteries are used where high current discharges are required.

SRM-F3 - Reliable performance year after year Saft engineered the SRM-F3 cell to meet the specific needs of North America's OEMs and railway operators for reliable onboard backup power. It combines the reliability and long-life of Saft's Ni-Cd technology with the field-proven performance of sintered/PBE construction. SRM-F3 battery systems have been developed to support electrical systems onboard a wide variety of passenger rail transit cars. They deliver reliable, high-energy backup power that ensures: passenger safety and comfort (lighting, door control, ventilation, communication and Wi-Fi systems, etc.) and fail-safe train start-up (pantograph lifting, computer and electronic systems).

SNC - Ahead with Supercapacitors The innovative Saft Nickel Capacitor (SNC) module, also known as a supercapacitor or ultra-capacitor, is designed to provide the very high power required for engine starting. Typically, a supercapacitor operates in conjunction with the train's onboard battery to provide the very high cranking power needed to start large diesel engines found in heavy duty vehicles, long-haul trucks, generator sets and diesel locomotives. It is maintenance-free, simple to operate and its life and performance are largely unaffected by extreme temperatures.

SPL - Total Reliability for Trackside Signaling Saft SPL Ni-Cd batteries are designed to guarantee the reliability of signaling and railroad system communication. They supply back-up power for trackside signals, crossings, switches, communications and other equipment over long discharge periods.

Tel X. - Guaranteed power continuity for trackside signaling and substation control centers Tel.X delivers exceptional reliability against unexpected outages for trackside installations, UPS, telecom equipment and substations where continuity and reliability of power supplied is critical. Tel.X batteries are virtually maintenance free and are especially suited for installation in tight spaces and are compatible with VRLA charging systems.

48 V Mild-Hybrid Module The 48 V Mild-hybrid module is the affordable and optimized battery solution for low voltage micro-hybrid and mild-hybrid vehicles. It has been developed in partnership with a world-class automotive equipment supplier, in order to provide the best economic package in a complete technical solution. Designed for very high power and integrated solutions, the module withstands the strongest application profiles, delivering up to 13 kW in peaks.

Railway Battery Systems Saft's capabilities simplify battery integration to the train by taking the overall responsibility for the design, manufacture and supply of the complete battery power system, ready to fit the railway application while meeting all relevant international safety and operation standards.
