Raleigh-based LexisNexis Executive Named to Triangle Business Journal List of Top Tech Leaders

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) September 30, 2014 LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, a leading provider of content and technology solutions, today announced the Triangle Business Journal has named Mike Lipps to its list 2014 CIO Award winners. Each year the publication recognizes 20 individuals in the Triangle area, which encompasses Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill, who have "used information technology in innovative ways to create competitive advantages, optimize business processes and enable growth." "CIOs and top executives in the technology sector improve efficiencies, create revenue opportunities and keep ingenuity alive in workplaces," said Triangle Business Journal Publisher Bryan Hamilton in an article announcing the winners. "This year's class reflects all those qualities, and how they are strengthening the area's IT backbone." As the top LexisNexis executive in the area, Lipps has been the driving force to consolidate an eclectic array of software businesses into a single cohesive software division headquarters in North Carolina. The final step of this multi-year effort occurred this past summer as LexisNexis moved the last of its software businesses into in a newly established Software Center of Excellence located on NC State's Centennial Campus. He joined LexisNexis from Intuit® Inc. where he ran the Quickbooks® financial software business and has actively recruited top software talent to his team from around the country.

"It was both a surprise and an honor to be recognized by the Triangle Business Journal among so many talented local business leaders," said Mike Lipps, the managing director for the LexisNexis software division. "It's important to note that the success we've had to date in building our LexisNexis software business in Raleigh is really a credit to a range of people that includes my leadership team, the team in North Carolina and a plethora of local government and business leaders. Thank you for your help!" Today the software division has streamlined business operations and created new efficiencies in functions including marketing, product management and development. This single business is now a key contributing division to the company's overall revenue, adding value for shareholders, while also producing better products for its customers and creating jobs in North Carolina. At the time of this writing, the company has brought more than 300 jobs to the state since first coming to North Carolina, with approximately 30 additional opportunities currently open.

LexisNexis and its employees are also very active in the local community. For example, as part of an overall corporate social responsibility program called Cares, North Carolina based employees logged more than 1,000 volunteer hours at local charities and non-profit organizations in 2013. The Raleigh office has already exceeded that benchmark for volunteer hours already in 2014. In addition, the company signed on as the title sponsor for the LexisNexis IRONMAN® Raleigh 70.3® triathlon, where 13 local employees competed in the race and an additional 50 employees volunteered to support the event's logistics and operations.

"We're building something – a business, a team and culture – that's quite unique and special here in the Triangle area," added Lipps. "We've come a very long way to date and while we're proud of that, we also recognize we've got a very long way to go as well."
