Faurecia Introduces Higher-Efficiency System for Reducing NOx Emissions from Diesels at the 2014 IAA Commercial Vehicle Exhibition

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 29 September 2014 Release date- 26092014 - Faurecia Emissions Control Technologies (FECT) is one of the leaders in exhaust emission aftertreatment systems.

FECT continually strives to meet global exhaust emission regulations with the most efficient and cost effective solutions.

FECT has been working for several years on a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology with an alternative Ammonia storage system allowing a higher efficiency in NOX conversion. This technology is viable for diesel engines and offers unique benefits to highly transient duty cycle applications. The Ammonia Storage Delivery System (ASDS) has been developed by FECT, its affiliate Amminex and its partner Cummins Emission Solutions (CES). Research and development phases suggest that a pure ammonia delivery solution could bring several advantages including both improved NOX conversion efficiency at low temperatures and the elimination of deposit formation associated with urea dosing systems in a conventional SCR technology system.

A test has recently been completed with Cummins in a real word condition covering 4 months and 30,000 km in the US. During this test, the ASDS NOX conversion efficiency and robustness have been proven in a harsh bus environment. Despite no changes in the emission control system parameters optimized for the existing solution, the ASDS exhibited a better NOX conversion efficiency of between 7 and 10% in actual driving conditions. Further optimization is expected through a specific engine calibration and low temperature light off catalyst which would take into account the ASDS NH3 availability in the exhaust system at a far lower temperature than through normal urea injection.

FECT and CES are presenting the ASDS system during the 2014 IAA Commercial Vehicle Exhibition, September 25 to October 2 in Hannover, Germany, at the Cummins booth (11E18). FECT representatives are available to discuss ASDS technology during the exhibition.
