Answering questions on computers and internet [Daily Post (Liverpool, England)]

(Daily Post (Liverpool, England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Q How do I get the Martin Lewis email my friends keep going on about? He seems to talk a lot of sense on the television but I have never been quick enough to note down the www address they give at the end.

A Martin Lewis is the founder and editor of the Money Saving Expert website. Just search for Money Saving Expert.com. To get a weekly email newsletter from the site, you need to give them your email address in the marked box on the site.

I try to recommend signing up to this email newsletter to all my course attenders as it encourages the use of email and is a brilliant way of getting used to hyperlinks - where you click on a link in one document and jump to a different location.

Q There is a little red dot with the number one in it on my settings app in my iPad- I get the feeling that this is important? A All Apple mobile devices - iPads, iPhones, iPods etc operate through the iOS system, and Apple has just this week launched update 8. The red circle is telling you that you need to download it.

Now, update 8 takes a lot of space, and if your device memory is rather full then it may refuse to download the update.

This is now the time to create some memory space in your device by weeding your pictures, getting rid of unused apps, and learning how to back up to the Cloud.

Q I have a perfectly usable PC which was the top of the range in its day, but as it is working through Windows XP, everyone is telling me I need to get a new computer as XP is no longer being supported by Microsoft. It seems a waste to throw my old computer out - and I am quite attached to my old friend. Is there any other way? A Depending on the capacity in your PC, it could be possible to replace the XP with Windows 7, meaning your 'old friend' will be around for a while yet. This environmentally friendly upgrading needn't break the bank either - recent enquiries at an independent computer repair shop in Bangor produced a quote for well under Pounds 100. A lot cheaper than a new PC.
